The time has come again for an event to warm the hearts of adults and children alike.

The lantern celebration has been a Nelson summer tradition for more than 20 years and it’s back this Saturday.

It begins at 7pm on December 17 with entertainment pleasing crowds as they walk up to the centre of New Zealand.

Face painting, bubbles and circus toys await event goers at the top of the hill at the Botanical Reserve and Sir Stanley Whitehead Park.

Once the sun sets, lanterns are lit to light the path back down the hill where the wonders of the night await .

A band will begin playing at 8.30pm until dark and a UV performance runs from dark until 10pm on the walk back down.

If wet, the event will be rescheduled to Sunday 18 Dec.

Check the council events page and the ‘summerinnelson’ Facebook page for updates. ALCOHOLICS Anonymous: is alcohol causing problems for you in your life? want to stop drinking but cant? Maybe we can help. Support meetings every day Ph 0800 229 6757.
