The Leader Nelson edition

FILM REVIEW

-

Regarding the review of the movie Passengers published in the January 19 Nelson Leader. I am writing to encourage the Nelson movie going public to ignore this very negative critique and to go see this well crafted piece of modern cinematography. The movie is neither ‘‘hollow’’ in make-up, nor does it ‘‘hate women’’. For lovers of ‘‘hard’’ science fiction and romantic adventure this is an excellent movie with a believable plot, encompassing brilliant special effects, a magnificent spaceship and fabulous characters. Please don’t be put off from seeing this highly entertaining movie because of the opinion of one reviewer.

Erskine Sandilands, Enner Glynn, Nelson freedom camping. The city council appears to put great store by the financial advantages freedom campers will bring to the city. Having travelled in several European countries during 1996 and 1997 and freedom camped on occasion I can state in my opinion this is not always the case. If an easy option is provided in most situations people will take advantage of it as we ourselves did at times. The point I would like to make is that the present council elected in good faith has let the majority of us down and has a duty of care to focus on the vulnerable of our city, namely families with children and our elderly folk. Both groups are at opposite ends of the scale and deserving of respect and help, not necessarily financial although that is a good start. I would hope that their needs are given immediate priority over the so called needs and advantages of freedom campers.
