Party package for healthy hens nights

- SARA MEIJ

A Nelson woman is breaking away from the usual boozy hens do by offering healthy packages for brides-to-be and her guests.

Holistics NZ naturopath Kim McCormack is launching the idea at Melrose House’s wedding show at the end of March.

The idea of a ‘‘healthy hens do’’ is popular in Auckland and Australia, but it’s new to Nelson.

McCormack said the response from friends when she told them about the idea had been very positive.

‘‘The feedback that I have had so far is that this is something people have been waiting for in this region.

‘‘A lot of women who are already married have told me that they wished something like this was available when they had their hen’s party.’’

McCormack said she only knew of one other person on the South Island offering similar services from Queenstown.

The idea came to her after talking to a few brides-to-be who were looking for some alternative to the normal hens do night of drinking at bars.

‘‘They want to celebrate, be pampered, be active, and laugh with their friends without the foggy head the next day, knowing they have done something good for their bodies instead.’’

McCormack said she thought the interest in health and wellbeing was growing all the time and the healthy version of a hens do was going to fit in with that mindset.

‘‘People are becoming more aware of treating their bodies well and have also realised that choosing healthy options does not mean things are any less delicious or any less fun.’’

She said the packages she would offer were all different, but could include yoga, massages, facials and catering with healthy food.

Local businesses with a focus on health would be involved, including The Kitchen, yoga teacher Jane Pascoe, Elise Hair & Beauty and Susie Jaworski.
