Nelson’s SeniorNet to hold open day

- CARLY GOOCH

SeniorNet Nelson is opening its doors for the curious over 50s who are interested in keeping up with technology.

Smart phones, tablets and all things Apple have become an everyday part of life for most.

But for some over 50s, navigating around touch screens and applications can be an overwhelming experience.

The group which celebrated 20 years in the region in 2013, offers courses, workshops and interest groups which cover a variety of topics on devices from cameras to computers.

Helen Gowland got her first computer at 63 and attended a SeniorNet open day in 2008 to see if they could help with the very basics.

Gowland said now she attended meetings regularly as well as doing as many courses as she could to get the confidence she now has to use modern devices.

‘‘Being a SeniorNet member made me more tech-savvy’’, Gowland said.

‘‘It was amazing.’’

The courses provided at SeniorNet are easy and affordable, catering to all levels of competency.

Club meetings are held once a month for free at their premises on the third Wednesday of every month at 2pm.

*The open day is at the SeniorNet hall in Pioneers Park, 11 Hastings Street on April 22 from 10am to 3pm.
