Festival a roaring success

-

Over the past week Refinery ArtSpace has been transformed into the vibrant home of the Nelson Fringe Festival.

Audiences were treated to a jam-packed programme of 37 shows featuring comedians, magicians, storytellers, talking cats, aliens, psychologically agonised super heroes and many other weird and wonderful creations.

Australian magician Bodane Hatten agrees, ‘‘The Nelson Fringe is one of the best festivals I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of. Laura and her team have taken a bunch of strangers from all over and thrown them together creating bonds and friendship which in the end is what it is all about. Connection.’’

Local performer Nikkie Karki added: ’’The Nelson audiences have been remark- able. Receptive, open, willing to take a ride with you and supportive.’’

By all accounts, the 2017 Nelson Fringe Festival was an enormous success with multiple sold-out shows throughout the week.

‘‘We couldn’t have done it without the support of our incredibly generous sponsors, supporters, adopters, volunteers and audiences; and the participation of 19 artists in our inaugural Visual Arts Project,’’ Fringe marketing co-manager Pania Konecna says. ‘‘Thank you Nelson!’’

The Nelson Fringe Festival team thanks the NCC Creative Communities Scheme for their support and also acknowledges sponsorship from the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, funded by the Nelson City Council.
