BBQ trailer connecting communities
A new BBQ trailer recently launched by Neighbourhood Support Nelson is expected to help bring neighbourhoods and communities together.
The custom-built trailer, which cost $13,500 to build and fit out, is intended for neighbourhood and community gatherings.
Neighbourhood Support Nelson Co-ordinator Karen Clark said it was already proving popular with sports and community organisations wanting to use it for events, and people organising neighbourhood get-togethers. It had even been booked for a wedding.
‘‘It’s great that it is being used for all sorts of events, because that’s what it’s intended for. We aim to bring neighbours and communities together and a social gathering such as a BBQ is a great way of doing that.’’
The BBQ trailer has a six-burner BBQ, two gas bottles, and two 68-litre chilly bins. Two sides of the trailer lift up to provide shelter for the cooks from the rain or sun. There is also a fold-out table, to put food and other items on.
The BBQ trailer was funded through grants from Neighbourhood Support New Zealand, the Nelson City Council and Pub Charity. Sponsors such as Crombie Lockwood insurance brokers are helping fund ongoing operating costs.
Neighbourhood Support groups can use the BBQ trailer for free and other users pay a small hire fee, to cover running costs such as gas. It can be booked through the Neighbourhood Support Nelson website nsnelson.org
