Car Company’s charity drive returns

- TIM O'CONNELL

Community organisations stuck in first gear with their funding goals can now pitch their case for a $10,000 tune up.

After a short hiatus, The Car Company’s Charity Drive is back for 2018.

The promotion was such a huge success in 2013 and 2014 that once again The Car Company is offering $10,000 to a non-profit group or organisation in the region.

The Car Company managing director Shane Drummond said one of the main reasons they organised Charity Drive was to encourage groups that didn’t usually seek funding to apply.

‘‘There are so many deserving community groups out there doing a lot of great work but for some of them the process of applying for grants and sponsorship doesn’t come easy.’’

Drummond said The Car Company had received and distributed many funding requests over the years and the drive offered a userfriendly, novel approach for those seeking some financial assistance to grow their organisation.

‘‘What we have done with Charity Drive is almost reverse the roles and gone out and asked the groups to come to us.’’

Previous winners have included Food for Families, Pinnacle House and the Stoke Community Centre.

Applicants are encouraged to supply as much supporting information as possible, such as photos and video clips, to help convince judges why their organisation should be chosen.

‘‘We had one netball group turn up to the application interviews with three generations of members in uniforms - that was fantastic and exactly the kind of thing we like to see,’’ Drummond said.

Application forms for the Charity Drive are available online at www.carcompanynelson/ charity-drive-application or visit any of the four dealerships Nelson, Tahuna and Richmond.

Applications open Monday 19th February and close 4pm on Friday, 16th March 2018. Once applications close, a judging panel will decide which local charity will win the $10,000.

Drummond said the money may be shared amongst multiple charities, depending on the quality of applications..
