Britomart offices ready to set sail

Keen interest likely in Quay St option

- Colin Taylor

Two stylish offices have become available within the faithfully refurbished and historic Generator Northern Steam Ship building at 122-124 Quay St in the trendy Britomart precinct of Auckland.

‘‘Prior to these rare vacancies, the building was fully leased,’’ says Amy Brown, Generator sales manager.

Generator offices project a different working environment designed to employ the best elements of Auckland’s waterfront heritage with a state-of-the-art office space that is described as ‘‘ part business lounge and part members’ club’’.

Occupying the first floor of the restored brick building, which was constructed in 1899 for the Northern Steam Ship Company (NSS), Generator comprises a series of selfcontained private office suites located around a central and open bar — the only standalone Moa beer bar in New Zealand — and a sitting area where members are encouraged to mingle.

Brown says the two newly available offices include a new 18sq m office space, with a waterfront view at the front of the building which will be available in mid-August once the fit-out has been completed.

The second, also of 18sq m comprises corner office space becoming available because the tenant is moving across to another Generator owned building in Customs Street at the end of July.

‘‘This space will therefore be avail- able for lease from mid-July,’’ Brown says. Both office spaces have waterfront views over Quay St, the wharves, cruise ship berths and out across the harbour to Devonport.

Brown has already received strong interest in leasing the offices. “Generator Northern Steam Ship is a sophisticated and modern work environment within a heritage waterfront building. The vacancies represent an opportunity for new tenants to rub shoulders with our other NSS members, which include exporters, software companies, lawyers, a wine company and a number of investors.

‘‘These offices have attracted business people with an eye for a nextgeneration work and lifestyle space that will accelerate their business growth and success,’’ Brown says.

The building’s 19th-century shipping heritage has been celebrated in a number of ways, from the wall structures and original metal poles, through to the branding of the space and the individual rooms, which are each named after the boats which have worked in the harbour as part of the Northern Steamship Company.
