Wife waltzes in to radio man’s spat
Jay-Jay stands by husband as fallout over Dom Harvey’s social media post continues
Radio host and Dancing With the Stars competitor Jay-Jay Harvey has broken her silence to speak out in support of her husband. Dom Harvey became embroiled in a feud with DWTS runner-up Chrystal Chenery on Monday after he posted a revealing picture of her on social media, taken during Sunday night’s final.
Jay-Jay Harvey posted a message on her public Facebook page, saying: “My husband Dom Harvey and I are not the same person, and do not have the same opinion or viewpoint on everything, but I love him.”
She wrote: “His main aim in life is to make people laugh. And he does it. Sometimes he offends people, but so do the best comedians. Not everyone gets or appreciates every joke in the world.”
She went on to say: “He lives his life for others and his main aim in life is to make people laugh. He doesn’t like hurting people, and if this happens, he is deeply remorseful. It eats him up!!”
The post comes after former The Bachelor contestant Dani Robinson lent her support to Chenery, condemning Harvey’s “disgusting sense of humour”.
“It’s about time he stops hurting others for entertainment,” she wrote on Twitter.
Yesterday, Chenery told the Herald she refused an apology from Harvey and denied his claims she asked for compensation.
Chenery had a clear message for Harvey: “We’re not friends. I don’t want to know you, I don’t respect you.”
She denied asking for compensation and said that was a separate issue relating to her contract with MediaWorks. She would not discuss it further.
MediaWorks refused to comment when asked about the issue.
Chenery said she did not accept Harvey’s apology as she felt it was insincere and followed a pattern of behaviour for the shock jock.
“I don’t accept his apology . . . He always gets away with everything on air.”
Jay-Jay Harvey said she supported her husband and the apology: “Let’s just hope Chrystal can find peace.”
