Inglis looks key figure for the Roos

-

Greg Inglis shapes as the key player in Australia’s quest to regain their Four Nations league crown.

Inglis returned to his devastating best in his man-of-the-match effort in Australia’s 26-6 win over New Zealand in Perth on Saturday.

The performance came after a limited preparation. The South Sydney star arrived in Perth late due to the birth of his daughter Quinn Sybella and had only the captain’s run to acquaint himself with his new left wing partner Valentine Holmes.

But between them Inglis and Holmes combined for three tries.

And all of the Kangaroos’ five tries in the convincing win came on Australia’s left side.

Benefiting from some rest and relaxation after the Rabbitohs failed to make the finals, the Queensland star has also discovered how to better manage his troublesome left knee, which he has admitted he’ll have to deal with for the rest of his career.

But it is Inglis’ clear head which is his greatest ally. His life is settled off the field and he re-signed with Souths until the end of 2020 two weeks ago.

“With the PM’s XIII match I have had two games in six weeks and I am feeling really good,” said Inglis.

“The big thing now is going over to the UK with the different environment and the different conditions and the challenges that come with that.”

With the monstrous Kangaroos, Kiwis and England packs possibly cancelling each other out, it is in the backs where Australia look to have an advantage.
