On eggs

I have worked out I have spent about $500 extra over the years buying free range eggs. Who is going to reimburse me? It was all a trick, wasn’t it?

June Krebs, Sunnyhills. Looks as though the chickens are finally coming home to roost.

James Young, Takapuna.

On jams

Auckland’s rapidly growing traffic congestion is reportedly ranked worse than Hong Kong’s. Not really surprising when we have a net gain of about 70,000 immigrants a year without an equivalent growth in infrastructure.

Peter Culpan, Te Atatu Peninsula.

On bottled water

All over the country people have protested against the pillaging of our fresh water resources by foreign interests. Nick Smith’s response, “We’ve got plenty,” makes it plain he is unfit to be Minister for the Environment.

Lew Thorstensen, Unsworth Heights. Never mind the water, think of the plastic. Petrus van der Schaaf, Te Arai Pt.

On sex

While the boys are in class being taught to respect women, are the girls having lessons in not getting so inebriated that they are incapable of saying “no” and walking away?

Chris Thompson, Rothesay Bay.

On foreign drivers

Surely someone can come up with software where a would-be driver can sit down in front of a screen and “drive a car” in typical NZ conditions for 10 minutes? S.P. McMonagle, Greenhithe.

On saving water

Keep a bucket in the shower. Use the saved water for your outdoor plant pots.

Ian Barnes, Grey Lynn. There is no shortage of water. Sure, it’s not always in the right places, so we get floods and droughts. Most of it goes down storm drains and ends up whence it came.

John Clements, Orewa.
