Ocean’s Eight star reveals shocking pay

Upcoming all-female heist film Ocean’s Eight comes with an all-star cast — but one of them didn’t get paid very well.

In fact, Olivia Munn, who has a cameo in the film as an attendee at the Met Gala, had to foot the bill for the privilege.

The Newsroom and X Men: Apocalypse star made the shocking admission in an Entertainment Weekly radio interview, admitting the details of her measly pay took her by surprise.

“It actually cost me money to be part of Ocean’s Eight,” Munn said.

Asked to appear glammed up for her scene, Munn footed the bill for her own wardrobe.

“They’re like, ‘Do your own glam’, and I got the dress and all that and then you submit the bills for it because I’m part of your movie. And then they’re [the producers] like, ‘Oh no, the bills come right back to you’.”

It seems timely to mention at this point that Ocean’s Eight is a spin-off to the popular Ocean’s Trilogy, three films which together grossed more than US $1 billion ($1.36b) at the box office worldwide.

While she may have had to pay her way into the film, Munn insisted she had no hard feelings about being stuck with a bill for her efforts and is “just as excited about it as everybody else”.

With a largely female cast including Sandra Bullock, Rihanna and Cate Blanchett, Ocean’s Eight is due for release in June 2018.

Munn is hardly the first actor to be paid a pittance for appearing in a big-budget film — only last week it emerged that Aussie actor Rebel Wilson was paid just US$3000 for her star-making turn in the 2010 hit Bridesmaids, a movie that went on to gross US$288.4 million at the box office and was nominated for two Oscars.
