Waititi gets his chance to direct Star Wars

-

He made one of the best Marvel movies ever — now Disney wants him to helm a Star Wars film.

Newshub reports Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy has offered Kiwi Taika Waititi the chance to direct an upcoming Star Wars movie.

“I would love for him to direct a Star Wars movie,” Kennedy told Newshub during promotional duties for upcoming film The Last Jedi in Tokyo.

“I think he has exactly the right sensibility. It was very exciting to see him step into the Marvel universe and do such an amazing job with Thor.”

When Newshub asked Kennedy if it was a genuine job offer, she replied: “Yeah.”

Waititi has already addressed the potential of helming a Star Wars film, telling Uproxx: “I’m not an idiot. Who would actually say no to Star Wars?”

There are plenty of upcoming opportunities for Waititi to direct a Star Wars film, with Disney planning plenty of films set to George Lucas’ universe — including an all-new trilogy helmed by Rian Johnson.

Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok has been one of the year’s most popular movies, a hit with critics and fans alike.

His next film is scheduled to be Bubbles for Netflix, an animated movie about Michael Jackson’s pet chimpanzee.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the second film in Star Wars’ third trilogy, is due for release next week.
