Govt set to work with Nats on apartments

The Government plans to overhaul the $50 billion apartment sector by tightening laws but Housing Minister Phil Twyford says this won’t be until next year at the earliest.
Reacting to the joint push for a law reform from National’s Auckland Central MP, Nikki Kaye, and its urban development spokeswoman, Judith Collins, Twyford said yesterday that would come but not immediately.
“Labour supported the previous Government’s work in this area as it offers a pragmatic solution,” he said.
“During my meeting with Nikki Kaye and Judith Collins, I suggested a joint approach and I’m happy to work with them on this on a nonpartisan basis.
