Mumps blow
Sevens star Ruby Tui has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games officially after contracting mumps. Tui was hospitalised with the illness last week and has not recovered. After discovering Tui’s diagnosis, the women’s sevens team were placed in isolation on the Sunshine Coast but they have since joined the New Zealand contingent in the Gold Coast. Alena Saili, 19, called in to replace Tui while 17-year-old Risi Pouri-Lane is now the travelling reserve and in line for a potential international debut. The sevens starts on Friday.
