Australian linked to fake site
An Australian union official has resigned from his role after he was accused of running a fake Facebook page titled Black Lives Matter.
National Union of Workers vice-president Ian Mackay has been linked to the social media page, which has since been taken down by Facebook, according to a CNN investigation.
With almost 700,000 followers, the fake page had at least double the interest than the official Black Lives Matter page, and raised more than US$100,000 ($135,840).
When Mackay, who is white, was contacted by CNN and asked about several other websites — with names such as blackpowerfist.com and blacklivesmatter.media — that were registered to him, he said: “My domain name buying and selling is a personal hobby.”
