Airport rail

-

I question the wisdom of spending billions on light rail to Auckland Airport before looking at who would use it. Our Government should see how low the patronage of rail to an airport is in Australia. Online data reveals that in Sydney only 6 per cent of people use the train service, in Brisbane only 3-5 per cent. Perth is still building theirs and Melbourne is arguing over the cost benefit of spending between $8.5 billion and $11b. And unlike Auckland, they already have established suburban train services.

Auckland has a rail line about 8km from the perimeter of the airport. Why not simply extend the South Auckland electric train parking area to connect?
