Children’s interests

Children’s Commissioner Andrew Becroft describes past work on child wellbeing as “ad hoc” and believes the latest report, “Getting it Right” offers a coherent plan and solutions. It does not. Children need a loving family environment that consists of a mum and a dad who are committed to each other long term, and to their children. We need to acknowledge that not all so-called “family arrangements” are equal. Research is clear on this, children do best in mum and dad marriages or longterm de facto relationships. Until Government policies reflect this non-PC reality nothing will change. Expect more hand wringing in the years to come as we continue to allow the United Nations and our own political PC brigade to dictate what is best for Kiwi kids. Shane Kennedy, Wattle Downs.
