Some Crown agencies are confused about what to do after the the furore surroundin­g the activities of private investigat­ion firm Thompson and Clark. The problem is, many agencies use private investigat­ors to stop people ripping off the taxpayer. The confusion arises as department­s fear being roped in with the frowned-upon activity, and wonder whether it is safe to use any private investigat­ors at all. Some have been dipping their toes into the political waters by seeking tenders for “investigat­ion services” and seeing what sort of reaction they get.
