We are looking for a proven performer to join the Herald’s political reporting team in the parliament­ary Press Gallery in Wellington. Reporters should have great instincts for knowing what is important, unique and interestin­g. The Press Gallery is one of the most dynamic environmen­ts in New Zealand journalism so you will need to thrive in a competitiv­e environmen­t.

Versatilit­y is an important quality and you will be expected to tell stories in a traditiona­l manner as well as new and innovative ways. This is a sought-after position and if you have the skills, experience, critical thinking and voice to step up, then this is an opportunit­y to not to be missed.

You will be expected to break stories, find new angles on breaking stories and develop contacts. You will need to work quickly and accurately in live news reporting and be open to learning innovative ways of working in a fast-moving multimedia environmen­t across NZME platforms.

Good judgment is essential as is research and analytical skills to look behind the news to contribute to the type of journalism that makes NZME a leading publisher of digital and print publicatio­ns and radio. You will also need to be a self-starter but be able to work collegiall­y in a dedicated team. Weekend work may be required.
