Voke wins third title in a month

-

Just over a month ago, Kiwi golfer Nick Voke was still searching for his first professional victory. Now he has three.

Voke capped a remarkable run on the PGA Tour China series last night by claiming victory at Clearwater Bay Open, the final event of the series.

The win was his third in 35 days following victories in Qinhuangdao and Macau last month.

The 23-year-old fired a final-round 67 to finish the Hong Kong tournament at 14-under, three shots clear of Englishman Callum Tarren.

Voke finished third on the order of merit despite playing only five events in China, nine fewer than the two players above him. The top-five finish in the order of merit secured Voke a spot on the Web.com Tour in the United States, the level below the PGA Tour.

Voke had four birdies and a bogey in the final round to record a fourth straight score in the 60s and hold off fast-finishing Tarren, who fired a final round eight-under.

● On the LPGA Tour, Lydia Ko had a poor final round to finish in a share of 11th place at the KEB Hana Bank Championship in South Korea.

Starting the final day two shots back in fourth place, the Kiwi’s hopes of a second win this year all but ended in the opening five holes when she recorded two bogeys. Ko added a third bogey at the 12th before recording her only birdie of the day at the 15th to card a two-over 74.

Ko finished eight-under for the tournament, eight behind Korean In Gee Chun, who captured her third career win. In, who started the final round tied with Ko, carded seven birdies against a lone bogey at the Sky 72 Ocean Course to finish at 16-under 272, three strokes ahead of Charley Hull, who shot a 71.

No 1-ranked Sung Hyun Park finished with a 69 that left her tied for third with Ariya Jutanugarn (71), Minjee Lee (70) and overnight coleader Danielle Kang (72).
