The story I’ve most enjoyed working on, and why

I love covering royal tours because you get to see people from all walks of life come together and be part of a special moment. The excitement in the crowds is infectious and I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to see up close the royal family interacting with everyday Kiwis. The stories and photographs always get displayed beautifully in print and become part of the country’s history.

The one that got away

I got talking to two interesting guys at an Apple event in California and someone interrupted us to ask if they could have a selfie taken with them. I asked why and they said because the pair were in a band called Massive Attack. I said I liked their music, but only later remembered that one member of the duo, Robert Del Naja, was widely believed to be the street artist known as Banksy. I missed my opportunity to ask if the rumours were true!

Career highlight

Being invited to the aforementioned Apple event in Cupertino, California, on a 48-hour trip. Seeing the inner workings of one of the world’s biggest companies was a real eye-opener and it was fascinating to watch how journalists and content creators from around the world covered the event.

I love journalism because

I get to work with people who are truly passionate about what they do and believe they’re making a difference.

But if I couldn’t be a journalist, I’d ...

Re-train in viticulture and become a winemaker.
