Miriyana Alexander

Premium Content Editor Miriyana was previously the New Zealand Herald’s Weekends Editor. Under her editorship, the Weekend Herald won back-to-back Newspaper of the Year awards in 2017-18, and the Herald on Sunday became New Zealand’s biggest-selling and most-read Sunday paper. Last year Miriyana studied journalism at Cambridge University after winning the Wolfson Fellowship at the Voyager Media Awards. Her study topic was “Fake News”, and she is deeply interested in the behaviour of big tech and its role in spreading misinforma­tion and harmful content. She is a previous winner of Reporter of the Year at the Qantas Media Awards, and is the chair of the Media Freedom Committee.

Duncan Bridgeman

Head of Premium Business Duncan joined NZME last October after nearly 17 years at the National Business Review where he was editor of both print and online publicatio­ns. He has won several journalism awards, including Best Business reporter at the 2014 Canon Media Awards and Best Business columnist at the 2007 Qantas Media Awards. Duncan’s journalism career took off with his coverage of Feltex Carpets in the lead-up to its collapse in 2006. He was at the forefront of financial reporting during the finance company meltdown that preceded the global financial crisis.

Audrey Young

Political Editor Audrey is the Herald’s Political Editor and one of the most experience­d journalist­s in the parliament­ary Press Gallery. Political coverage has always been a strength of the Herald and Audrey leads a strong team delivering news, comment and analysis every day. She was named Political Journalist of the Year in 2018 and is a finalist for the same Voyager award this year. She started covering politics shortly before the introducti­on of MMP and since then has covered six Prime Ministers, 10 Leaders of the Opposition and six support parties.

Fran O’Sullivan

NZME Head of Business Fran is a prominent New Zealand Herald columnist, writing on business, politics and internatio­nal trade. She is a frequent television and radio commentato­r and is adjudicato­r of the PwC Herald talks. Fran launched the influentia­l Mood of the Boardroom CEO Survey, the leading barometer of business leadership opinion in New Zealand. She was twice named Reporter of the Year at the former Qantas Media Awards, has a slew of awards as a columnist and for investigat­ive business journalism under her belt, and was recently appointed to the ONZM for services to journalism.

Simon Wilson

Senior Writer Simon writes features and opinion pieces for the Herald with a broad remit that includes local and central government, transport, urban design, housing, the environmen­t, books, arts and food. Simon is a regular commentato­r on television and radio and has received many awards for his journalism, including Feature Writer of the Year and Reviewer of the Year in the Qantas/ Canon/Voyager Media Awards. Prior to coming to NZME, he worked at The Spinoff and was editor of Metro and Cuisine, winning Magazine of the Year for both those titles.
