NZ bundled out
New Zealand secured their place at next year's Olympic men's sevens then were promptly dumped by France in a controversial London quarter-final sealed by a penalty try. Joe Webber's desperate late grab was ruled a deliberate knockdown with France looking almost certain to score the match winner with just seconds left on the clock. Webber was sent to the sin-bin and the referee had little option but to award a penalty try as France celebrated a 19-14 victory. France were toppled 31-24 in the semifinals by Australia, who were beaten 43-7 by Fiji in the final.
