Beppu’s buzzing

- Mark Mitchell captured the atmosphere

Beppu, a small southern Japanese town, is famous for its hot springs and geysers — a feature which might make the All Blacks feel right at home before their Rugby World Cup game tomorrow night against Canada. Its residents have embraced the thrill of hosting the world champions. Flags of competing nations hang in streets, mannequins have been dressed in rugby jerseys and bands of all ages have been joining in the fun.
