They might need a bigger digger . . .

-

A not-so-little yellow digger has got stuck trying to rescue a four-wheeldrive from an Auckland beach.

A Land Rover became cemented in wet sand on Little Shoal Bay in Northcote, near the Harbour Bridge, on Saturday about 2pm.

According to the local tradies, a medium-sized yellow digger went to retrieve the vehicle before it started sinking in the sand.

The operator tried to dig down to find solid ground but only succeeded in making the hole bigger.

Now the digger has been stranded for three days with photos showing it firmly lodged in the wet sand, with only the top of the cab and crane showing. Others showed the machine mostly submerged underwater as the tide changed.

Police said there had been no reports of injuries.

As of yesterday, the digger remained on the beach while authorities figure out how to get it out. They might need a bigger digger.
