Cat found with arrow in its back

Owner heard ‘terrible noise’ and found her trusting pet badly injured

- Heath Moore

Acat has survived being shot with a crossbow after the bolt lodged in muscle along its spine. Jo Eden’s cat Bosley was hit on Tuesday morning after she let the animal outside about 7am.

The Glen Eden woman said she heard a “terrible noise”.

“I opened the front door to find my gorgeous Bosley cowering and howling under our van in terrible pain and saw that he had a protrusion coming out of his back.”

She took the cat to a vet, where Bosley had surgery to remove the arrow.

According to Eden, the vet said Bosley has a “very lucky escape”.

“She said that the arrow had narrowly missed his spine, had not entered the abdominal cavity and had lodged in the muscle along the side of his spine.”

The surgery cost Eden about $1000. Bosley is back home to rest and sleeping on the couch.

“When a cat is shot in broad daylight it’s very concerning,” Eden said.

“And the way the arrow went into him and the angle it was clear to see he was facing whoever it was, so he was walking towards them.

“He’s a very trusting cat. He’s not a scaredy-cat, he loves everyone. I don’t think he can be mistaken for a possum, they don’t come out in day time.

“The surrounding properties are all private so it’s worrying as we don’t know whether the [ shooter was] on our property or where it came from.”

New Lynn Constable Robert Manson police were investigating.
