House demolished

An historic house lived in by squatters trying to save it was demolished yesterday. The 106-yearold Hamilton house was at the centre of a public stoush between the squatters, who believed the house should be heritage-listed, and owner Grant Griffiths. The legal tenant vacated the property in January. But the eight remaining residents rigged up a hose with running water, a toilet, fire bath and solar power. A petition on Change.Org to save the house, drew 3274 signatures.
