OPENS MONDAY, APRIL 19
Travellers coming from Australia to New Zealand will need to wear a mask on their flight and will be asked to download and use the NZ Covid Tracer app.
Travellers will fly on ‘green zone’ flights. These will only have passengers who have spent at least the last 14 days in Australia.
They will then pass through ‘green zones’ in New Zealand airports, which keep them separate from arrivals from other countries.
New Zealand will use a red, green and orange light system to manage Covid cases when they appear.
GREEN LIGHT
May be triggered by an Australian Covid case linked to its international border — such as at a managed isolation facility — where there is a low risk of further transmission. Flights and quarantine-free travel continues while health authorities assess the situation.
ORANGE LIGHT
May be triggered by a Covid case from an unknown source in any one Australian state but suspected to be linked to the border. Flights might then be paused from the affected state. Kiwis returning may have to get a pre-departure Covid test, and if coming from an affected Australian state enter managed isolation on return.
RED LIGHT
May be triggered by one or more unknown cases and lead to flights from an affected Australian state or states being suspended. Kiwis will need to be prepared to stay longer in Australia and otherwise as for the orange light.
