Ukraine Nato plea
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, has made a desperate call for his country to join Nato as Russia continues to build its military presence at the border. Zelenskiy, elected in 2018 on a promise to end fighting in eastern Ukraine, spoke out yesterday about the increasing number of fatalities in the conflict in recent months. He told Jens Stoltenberg, head of the Western alliance, that “Nato is the only way to end the war”. Stoltenberg expressed serious concern about “Russia’s military activities in and around Ukraine and ongoing ceasefire violations”.
