Getting ready for Philip’s farewell

-

Hundreds of military personnel are rehearsing for the Duke of Edinburgh's Saturday funeral .

Military rehearsals for the ceremonial procession have been held all week at the Army Training Centre Pirbright near Woking in Surrey.

A full dress rehearsal is expected to take place at Windsor Castle tomorrow (UK time).

The training site in Surrey was chosen because it is close to Windsor and infrastructure that allows for regular Covid testing.

However, it is likely the royal family could wear nonmilitary dress for the funeral after intense discussions over which members should appear in uniform.

The Telegraph reports there are growing concerns that a debate over whether the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York should wear military dress could lead to embarrassment for the rest of the royal family, when they are the only ones who have seen active service.

The Queen was this week dragged into the discussion over which rank of uniform Prince Andrew should wear after he demanded to go as an admiral.

It followed reports that Prince Harry, 36, faced the prospect of possibly being the only senior male royal not in uniform after he lost his military titles following his decision to step down from public duties in March 2020.
