Two local eateries named among the world’s finest

-

Two Auckland restaurants have been named by travellers among the top 20 fine-dining establishments in the world, sitting alongside Michelin-star offerings across the globe.

The list, compiled from reviews and ratings on the TripAdvisor website, ranked The Grove, in the CBD, and Sails Restaurant, at Westhaven, in the top 20. The Grove was also NZ’s No 1.

The degustation-style restaurant in St Patrick’s Square came in at 15th on the global Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Restaurants list for 2021.

The Grove has housed some of New Zealand’s top culinary masters over the years, including chefs Sid Sahrawat and Ben Bayly, and the kitchen team is headed by British chef Ryan Moore.

Sails, which has been around for more than 30 years, ranked second in NZ and 20th on the global list.

The vote for the top restaurant globally was The Old Stamp House Restaurant in Ambleside, in Britain’s Lake District, which has already earned one Michelin star.

Second was La Maison d’a Cote in Montlivault, France, which has two Michelin stars, followed by Japanese restaurant Ise Sueyoshi in Tokyo.

TripAdvisor also compiled a list of everyday eats, which have a more affordable price point.

Gramado’s in Blenheim took the NZ crown on the everyday eats list, with its Brazilian-themed menu sitting comfortably under the $40 limit.
