Duo Eatery is Birkenhead’s latest little culinary secret. Run by chefs Jordan and Sarah Macdonald (between them, they’ve served up dishes at Culprit, Lowbrow, Woodpecker Hill, Federal Delicatessen and more), Duo opened quietly in March with breakfast and lunch, and has now expanded into dinner. The fare is modern, chic and local — think savoury donuts filled with creamed pāua and horseradish, raw market fish with dashi creme fraiche; eggplant with Clevedon buffalo curd and black garlic; house-made pasta with Mangawhai mushrooms — plus an interesting and varied wine list from New Zealand, Australia and French.
