Men’s fours slow in coming forward

- Gwen Lawson

Last weekend saw clubs around the centre playing some form of their championships events and the same will happen at other clubs this weekend.

The next centre event is the Centre Open Fours for men and women and will be played next Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28.

Entries, particularly from the men, were very disappointing, so we have extended the closing date until Monday.

The fours events are scheduled to be played at Onerahi (women) and Waipu (men) on Saturday and post section will be played at Onerahi on the Sunday. Please note that this event was rescheduled early this year and replaced the Centre Pairs, so that greens were not being overused at the beginning of the season.

The Bowls Nz “Bowls3Five” competition will start live on Sky Sport on Tuesday October 23 and will continue on Wednesdays as well, until November 7. Play is live and is from 7pm-10pm each evening. If you want to know how to play the game, watch with interest and then put your club entry in for the local competition.

Entries close for this on November 7 and will be played on a Wednesday evening for four weeks from November 28 on a “home and away” basis.

Clubs should send their entries to the centre office with an entry fee of $140 per team. As this is an interclub event, teams are made up of nine players, mixed format and will play triples. Refer to p18 of the centre handbook for further details.

Also being played in November are the Centre Open Triples for men and Centre Open Singles for women. These will be played on Saturday and Sunday, November 3-4. Entries are now being accepted. This event will be followed by the Junior 1-5 year pairs for men and women to be played November 17-18. Entries are also being accepted for this event. Please remember that a composite team is accepted for this event when there is no other junior bowler available to play from your club.

Club tournaments next week: Monday Kensington AC Triples; Tuesday Ngunguru AC Triples, Kamo Women’s Sixes; Wednesday Maungatapere Mx Triples; Thursday Hikurangi AC Triples, Ruawai AC Triples; Saturday and Sunday — Centre Open Fours.
