Live for Sport? Here’s your chance to work for Sport too… The Northern Advocate is looking for a Multimedia Sports Journalist to produce excellent coverage of local sports. The Northern Advocate is one of NZME’s largest provincial daily newspapers and now is an exciting time to be joining the team as it grows readership and expands across social media platforms. Our journalists work across digital/print, radio and video. You may specialise in one or more of these areas and we’ll give you training and support to grow confident in the others as needed.

This role works to ensure the Advocate’s sports coverage is second to none and that it goes beyond the results and match reports to tell the human stories too. The print responsibilities include overseeing the editing and packaging of sports news content for weekday and weekend newspapers to consistently produce effective sports news pages; find and produce high quality stories and oversee the preparation of pages for layout and subbing.

The digital end of responsibilities include developing the story in a platform-agnostic manner, taking into account audience needs/times of the day/device access etc; generating fast breaking news, longer features and rich media relevant to the audience of NZME digital platforms. You will also be working with the social media team to promote and distribute NZME digital sport content.

The ideal candidate will have a journalism qualification and the flexibility to work weekends.
