Alpine fault plan

The Government has given assurances there is a plan for when the alpine fault goes. New research shows a 75 per cent chance the fault will rupture before 2071, and an 82 per cent chance it will strike a magnitude of 8 or higher. Acting Minister for Emergency Management Kris Faafoi says the emergency response has been developed — knowing the fault could generate a major quake. But Victoria University lecturer Dr Jamie Howarth says although plans are solid for the immediate aftermath, nothing is planned for the step after that
