Centre Open Pairs ushers in lively time on the greens

The next few weeks are a busy time for bowlers, particular­ly at a Centre level.

We start off with the Centre Open Pairs this weekend and the draw is:

Men at Whanga¯rei — T. Reader, R. Bowmar, D. Brewster, G. Bush, B. Barnetta, I. Halls, J. Ridling, K. Bint, D. Frame, B. McCarthy, L. Scott, N. Franks, P. Wightman, S. Mitchell.

Men at Onerahi — C. Claridge, E. Edlin, F. Arnerich, G. Bond, J. Dunn, J. Matich, M. Curran, T. Webb, C. Van Haaften, K. Robinson, L. Vallance, P.Price, R.Taylor.

Women at Kamo — L. Stewart, D. Klomp, A. Bateman, S. Ayerst, A. Halls, E. Hamber, H. Smeath, J. McKenzie, M. Timoti, J. Thurgood, J. Rutledge, M.Yovich.

Latest reporting time is 8.30am and play starts at 8.45am.

The 1-5 Year Interclub Sixes is scheduled to be played at Kensington greens on Monday of Anniversar­y weekend, January 28. The closing date for entries has been extended to Monday, January 21. The entry form is in the Centre handbook and the entry fee is $60 per team. Teams are made up of a singles player, one pair and one fours team. If clubs do not have enough junior bowlers they may combine to form a team.

The winner of the event will represent the Centre in the Regional Mercedes cup to be played in May.

● January 27: Arapohue 1-10 year AC Triples

● January 28: 1-5 Year Inter Club Sixes tournament.

Waipu¯ Pipers will play Parahaki Flyers at Waipu, Parahaki Dare Devils will play Whanga¯ rei Wasted Potential at Kensington, Hikurangi Miners will play Kamo Cruisey Comets at Hikurangi greens. Draw to be completed at 6pm and play to start by 6.30pm. Go and support your players.

This week, the teams placed first and second will play one another at Kensington.

The Centre Junior Singles are set down for February 16-17. This event is for men and Women of 1-5 year bowling experience. The First Year Singles for new bowlers will be on February 24. Entries are being accepted for both events.

The National Open Fours will start in Wellington on February 28 and continue until March 4.
