Trusting God will serve you well

ow on earth did I get here?” raced through my mind as I was hanging off a side of a small plane at 3000 feet. I stared at the “jump master” who was still inside the plane awaiting his thumbs up to let go, then the most exciting and terrifying moment came.

My wife, who was my fiance´ at the time, and her parents had purchased a skydiving trip for my 20th birthday.

I was super grateful and nervous at the same time, as this was something I have always wanted to do. We had to do some training at the jump master’s house (the head trainer) where we were shown the safety features of our gear, what to do in an emergency and the proper posture of how to fall correctly.

Not to brag but the jump master said I had the best posture of the class. The jump I chose to do was a static line jump, which was unassisted (you jump by yourself) however the plane pulled your chute out for you.

The day came where we met at Onerahi airport to board the smallest plane I have ever seen. There were no seats inside except for the pilot and the three other passengers were sitting on the floor.

The plane ascended to about 3000 feet and we were asked to hop out onto the wheel guard and grab a bar that was attached to the plane and wing.

It felt awesome, like I was in an Indiana Jones movie. When the jump master gave me the thumbs up, I let go and it seemed like all of time slowed down, and I fell what seemed like an eternity.

The scariest thing about falling was that it was completely out of my control and there was nothing I could do to help my situation. All the training went out the window and later the jump master said it looked like I was riding an invisible bike.

In the book of Proverbs 3 vs 5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding.”

There have been many times in my life where it seems that no matter what I tried to do or try to figure out, it did not help the situation out at all, leaving me to feel powerless. There have been and will be times, situations or crisis that seems completely out of your control.

But the one thing I have learned in life walking with God is to put my trust in Him and lean not on my own understanding. My understanding is so limited and even on my best day it fails in comparison to trusting God.

There have been times where my children have been sick and no matter what we do or try to figure out, sometimes it is out of our control. But bringing God into the situation changes everything.

Trusting in Him and not leaning on our own understanding will serve you well. My children don’t come to me to kiss their aches and pains away but they come to me for prayer. And it’s awesome!

My chute opens and my descent back to land was fantastic. I landed right on target and back to my family waiting for me on the ground.

Situations and crisis are normal to life but there is no reason for you to feel powerless. It may be an opportunity for you to put your trust in someone, who will never let you down. God Bless.
