Invaluable lessons at nationals

- Gwen Lawson

Last weekend saw the NZ Interclub Sevens for Men and Women completed on the greens at Auckland and North Harbour.

Success was achieved by Auckland Bowling Club ( Men) and Carlton Cornwall Club (Women).

Unfortunately neither of the Northland teams qualified but both had tight matches, where the difference in scores cost them the results they were seeking.

As the announcers on the live television said, more than two thirs of the players in post-section were current NZ representatives and almost all held several Centre and Club gold stars.

The experience gained from this type of competition is invaluable.

The Northland Coaching Association is holding their annual AC Bonus Fours tournament next Tuesday.

Please contact Sue Wightman for an entry on 021 758 899.

Games start at 9.30am. One 1-8 year player per team.

Some clubs are holding their Club Championships this weekend and with Champ of Champ Mixed Pairs added to the NZ competition an extra event is having to be played at club level.

The post-section play for Men and Women Singles will be held at Kensington on Sunday, April 21.

A list of qualifiers has been sent to all clubs.

This event was postponed earlier in the season because of wet weather.

Club events for next week are: Sunday 14 — Waipu AC Pairs; Wednesday 14 — Maungaturoto AC Triples; Ngunguru AC Triples; Saturday 20 — Kensington Men 2 bowl triples; Sunday 21 — Dargaville Fours (2 men, 2 women).

The next Champ of Champ Centre events will be played Sat/ Sun April, 27, 28; Triples & Fours.
