Right notes at college soiree

-

By Ariah Kapa Kaitaia College’s first soiree of the year started off on a good note, the opening act capturing the audience’s attention with Ed Sheeran’s ‘I See Fire’.

The night was full of talented musicians and a supportive crowd. Most performances had people dancing in their chairs and children quietly singing along.

As an assessment night for the musicians, the atmosphere was very calm with few technical difficulties. The judging panel consisted of five teachers from schools in the Far North — Jared Stevenson (NZ X Factor 2015 contestant and music teacher at Abundant Life School), Jonathan Pirini (former music teacher at Abundant Life School), Sean Scanlen (music teacher at Taipa Area School) and our own teachers Mark Dryburgh and Lisa Chuck.

Some of the highlights of the evening were the talented Level 3 guitarists Max Doyle and Grayson Clark, who both achieved merits with their brackets, and Crystal Wilkinson and Niskyla Blucher, who gained excellence for their Level 1 duets.

Congratulations must also go to all the students who supported the evening whether as musicians, back stage crew, lighting crew, front of house, kai karakia, and especially Reagan Rameka and Renee Walters as stage managers.

You can see all this talent and a lot more at the talent quest finals on Friday, June 19, 6.30pm in the Kaitaia College hall.
