Rap rules the roost at Okaihau

KAITAIA LADIES. Play last Wednesday (May 27) for the Kaitaia ladies’ fraternity was cancelled due to the wet conditions, with the Eagles game scheduled for that day will now take place tomorrow.

In other news, the Vera Quilter competitio­n was contested on combined nett pairs on May 16 and 20 and the winning pairs were, Val Simpson and Anne Stanton 150, Anne Squire and Nancy Gregory 151, Flo Smith and Ellen Wright 152, Cynthia Shailes and Linda Lunjevich 154, and Raewyn Shaw and Noeleen Robson 155; while Smith and Squire both had 2s, and Smith, Elaine Knightbrid­ge and Robson all had slam dunks.

That same day, the 9-holers had a putting competitio­n where the winners were, Cleone Bennett 15, Rata Masters 16 and Rae Smith 18 on countback.

Interested parties were asked to be at the clubhouse by 9.15am for the draw for the Eagles match tomorrow. As well, a reminder was set for Champagne Day on June 10, with the ladies promising the entertainm­ent, “will be worth coming for!” OKAIHAU. Recent results from the Okaihau Golf Club included those from first round of the Handicap Matchplay, held in conjunctio­n with a stableford haggle on Sunday, May 24, with Rap Stevens 45 points (and playing to his age with his gross score of 85), Steve Henderson 43, Darrell Waiti, Mike Hewer 40, Terry Saward 37, with Alistair Newey, Peter Roux and Chris Williams all finishing with 36.

Last Sunday (May 31), a stableford haggle was played where results were, Mike Hewer 43 points, Graeme Orr 40, Denis Smith 38, Warren Gould, Norm Doidge and Steve Henderson 36, with Nigel Turner winning the Lucky Joker.
