The Northland Age

The business world is changing quickly

-

New Zealand’s labour market is changing rapidly, and businesses are beginning to see the impact of increased immigration, the rise of the millennials and a large cohort of aging workers electing to stay in paid employment for longer.

Those issue will be addressed by the 2018 Diversity Roadshow: The Workforce of the Future, which will be in Whangarei on Thursday next week, March 8, giving Northland employers the chance to find out how they can future-proof their businesses by engaging with employees across a diverse range of ages and cultures.

The roadshow series is run by Diversity Works New Zealand, in partnership with the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce.

“Diversity and inclusion in the workplace brings many business benefits — a solution to skills shortages, a better ability to connect with customers and clients, better decision-making, a more engaged team, higher productivity and a competitive edge,” says Diversity Works chief executive Bev Cassidy-Mackenzie said.

“But it also comes with challenges, and means organisations must adapt their practices and policies to ensure they have a good employer brand and access to the top talent in their sector.”

Fletcher Building’s leadership programme manager Emma Collins will explain how that company’s Whakatapu Ma¯ori Leadership programme was ensuring the business had a higher representation of Ma¯ori in leadership roles, a more diverse leadership team, and staff who were able to reflect and engage with diverse clients. ■ 9.30am-11am at Orchard Business & Event Hub, Cnr Cameron and Walton St, Chamber and DWNZ members $15, others $25, both plus GST.
