Teachers meet
Finding a passion vital for happiness
Indigenous teachers from around New Zealand and Australia, members of Te Akatea Maori Principals’ Association and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Principals’ Association, gathered at Waitangi yesterday for a three-day conference. Te Kura o Otangarei principal and Te Akatea president Myles Ferris said the idea was to learn from one another. “The shared knowledge concept is really important to us,” he said. “We don’t know everything about indigenous education, and we look at what they’re doing and see a lot of things we can bring into our schools.”
