Making up for lost time

The Northland Age - - Local News -

The resealing of SH1 through the Mangamuka Gorge had a couple of false starts last month, thanks to wet weather, but was going well last week according to system manager Steve Mutton.

The gorge was closed to traffic on Saturday, Sunday and yesterday, and again today from 8.30am to 4pm, and 5pm to 8pm, Mr Mutton saying the resealing, and other maintenance, was on schedule, and could be largely completed by this evening, depending on the weather.

He reiterated his plea to drivers to keep to the posted speed limits when the highway reopened to give the new surface a chance to set.

“Road users will have already noticed the difference the works have made when travelling through the Gorge this week,” he said, adding that those who made their own way north or south rather than using SH10 should take extreme care, as some local roads may have uneven surfaces, minor slips or other damage as a result of recent bad weather
