The Northland Age

On the move for Playcentre

-

The Kaitaia Playcentre Committee and friends met at Mrs. Bonnevie’s home on Wednesday evening to discuss plans for the new building.

It was decided to accept the generous offer of Mr. Ellin, Diggers’ Valley, to draw up plans.

Members will meet with Miss Tunk, who is the Northland pre-school adviser, and will obtain her views on the plan.

Money-raising was discussed, and it was decided to hold fortnightly raffles, the first being for a cake made by Mrs. Bonnevie and iced by Mrs. Henderson. Monthly raffles for uncooked dinners will also be held, the meat for the first being donated by Mr. Ellin.

A ‘money-tin’ is being circulated, and an anonymous donation for two dollars was received.

During the week several mothers visited the Awanui Playcentre to see the buildings and equipment and to discuss the running of a Playcentre with Mrs. Mani, Mrs. Erstich and other motherhelpers.

It’s hoped to begin discussion and study groups in the near future, and it is hoped that Mr. Gibson, child psychologist, will be able to address an evening meeting next week.

Interested mothers and friends will be warmly welcomed at this and other meetings.
