The Northland Age

Another wet month

-

Last month might have been hot but it wasn’t dry.

The Northland Age recorded 181mm of rain on 15 days in Kaitaia, almost double the 88-year average of 92.2mm on 9 days.

That took the total for the year to date to 341.8mm on 28 days, compared to 232.2mm on 25 days over the same period last year and the average of 178.5mm on 19 days.

The three months of summer produced 367.2mm on 40 days in Kaitaia, compared to the average of 267.7mm on 31 days. The summer extremes were recorded in 1986 (602.5mm) and 1931 (79mm).

Robin Shepherd recorded 304mm on 14 days at Pamapuria last month for a two-month total of 529mm.

Niwa’s predictions for Northland for the next three months are for higher than average temperatures and rainfall, and above average to near average soil moisture and river flows.
