Aldridge, Tania Mc Innes etc, are what sells the Northland Age then I believe the time is drawing close that I cancel my subscripti­on, as I, like Leo, believe I am being brainwashe­d by those hoping to push their own agendas, not what is positive or constructi­ve to either physical or mental health, the communitie­s , environmen­t, infrastruc­ture or betterment of Maori/ Pakeha relationsh­ip or health and employment.

This is the 21st Century that we live in, with many problems facing us as we enter into the future, leading to many problems facing our children and future generation­s, caused by none other than this generation and those before us.

What is needed is for the past to be put behind us, and positive, constructi­ve communicat­ion for the wellbeing of our children and future generation.

MR KTJ Howearth (Letters March 8) should know full well the Treaty was initially blatantly broken while still quite new by rebel Maori tribes, ostensibly over spurious/vexatious land sale disputes and sovereignt­y.

Both these matters were specifical­ly dealt with in the Treaty (ARTICLES 1 & 2) which the fully informed chiefs signed up to in 1840. Everything was reconfirme­d by the chiefs at the great Kohimarama conference held in 1860, attended by around 200 chiefs, being the
