A clean sweep for the women

Women filled all three placings in the 2018 Northland Dairy Trainee of the Year competition for the first time in the region in the awards’ history.

The title went to Eden Ritchie, a farm assistant on a 5500-cow property at Dargaville. Second was Sarah Powell (Hikurangi), who was third last year, and third 19-year-old Jesse Insley (Kaiwaka), who was 2015 proxime accessit at Kaitaia Abundant Life School.

Jesse won the Pioneer Brand Products NZ Communication and Engagement Award, and the DairyNZ Practical Skills Award.

Dan and Gina Duncan (Poutu) were named Northland Share Farmers of the Year, second Peter Giesbers and Josiah Shaw (Kaikohe), third Colin and Isabella Beazley (Wellsford). The Northland Dairy Manager of the Year is Sam Moscrip (Hikurangi), second Fred Hohaia (Pakiri), third Clement Lafon (Kamo).
