Kin­n­ear twins take out Galvin Shield

The two dozen play­ers con­test­ing the an­nual Galvin Shield open pairs tour­na­ment at the Kaitaia Church Rd Bowl­ing Club re­cently en­joyed calm weather con­di­tions with plenty of cloud cover.

Play­ers in the field of 12 teams tak­ing part in the an­nual Bells Pro­duce tour­na­ment used three bowls each for the four games of one hour, played on a well pre­pared green in a re­laxed en­vi­ron­ment.

The tro­phy, which had been first pre­sented in 1993, was on dis­play with the var­i­ous suc­cess­ful win­ners names from over the years en­graved on it. Four teams won all their games with ends and points prov­ing the de­cid­ing fac­tors.

Pres­i­dent John Richard­son pre­sented spon­sor’s vouch­ers to the top placeget­ters who were, Bar­rie Kin­n­ear (skip) and Alex Kin­n­ear 4 wins, 26 ends, 60 points, 1; Paul Bur­ren and Adele Gard­ner 4, 23, 44, (and a dif­fer­en­tial of 20 points) 2; Dave Roughton and Dennis La­timer 4, 23, 44 (diff 23), 3.
