Car takes out power

-

About 140 households on Pokapu Rd, near Moerewa, were left without power for more than two hours on Sunday night after a car crashed into a power pole about 7.50pm. When emergency services arrived they found a group of family members at the scene retrieving belongings from the station wagon but the driver himself was nowhere to be seen. His relatives also claimed to have no idea of where he was. Sergeant Ross Laurie of Mid North police said inquiries to locate the driver were continuing. Police noted beer bottles scattered around the wreckage. The destroyed power pole has been temporarily replaced. Power will again be cut when a permanent pole is installed.
